I read the wiki article on what happened and it sounds pretty odd. I can't think of any reason why they would have left the tent unless there was some kind of animal attack, which would also explain the tent being torn up. I saw the pics and they are so old it's hard to make out much with the bodies. The tent looks like a heavy canvas tent so tearing it up wasn't easy.

It also said that 5 of the 9 died of hypothermia, and one was missing a tongue and one was missing a rib? They were the ones that they found in the spring so they could have possibly been gone due to some animal intrusion after the attack.

It's hard to say what happened, and either way this is a big russian mystery.
